Effect of obesity in pregnancy
Obesity even before you conceive can cause a lot of problems for you or your baby. In pregnancy some of these being hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, increased chances of cesarean delivery in you.
It may cause you have a large baby, neural tube defects in your baby, childhood obesity or birth injuries too.
It is always good to reduce your weight in the preconception period to avoid these complications.
There are two body types of obesity.
Based on the distribution of fat, obese individuals are either
• Apple shaped individuals with fat concentrated around the abdomen
• Pear shaped people carry most of their excess weight on their hips, buttocks and thighs.
Apple shaped individuals are more likely to have pregnancy related complications and it should warn you to take precautions if you are falling into this category.
