What can I do to decrease the symptoms?

There are certain tips that can be followed to lessen the symptoms, but time is the only definitive cure. The trick is not to let the stomach remains empty.

  • It would be best to eat small meals at frequent intervals, not only does it help in nausea but also keeps the blood sugar balanced, and the digestive system running more smoothly.
  •  After hitting the bed at night eat something rich in proteins and carbohydrates like nuts, raisins, yoghurt, cheese sandwich etc.
  • Keep something dry to eat (like biscuits) besides the bedside and have a small portion of it just before you raise up your head in the morning. Get up only if all this is settled in the stomach.
  • Keep some ice-cream bars in the refrigerator and have 2-3 spoonful every 3-4 hours.
  • Try to consume cold milk and at least 8 glasses of water /day.
  • Try to consume clear liquids like juices and water in plenty to keep you well hydrated.
  • Go out for walks and get fresh air. Keep out of closed or smoky areas, chemical smells, freshly painted houses etc.
  • If you can stay out of kitchen or cook easy food. Because of altered sense of smell, even mild smells become strong and some smells can make you run to the toilet.
  • Relax more often, smile more often and try to ignore the queasy feeling by diverting your mind. Trust me, it works.
  • Ginger in any form can help - you can take it in a capsule form, make ginger tea, ginger biscuits, ginger pickles. Even sniffing ginger in the morning can help.
  • Even vitamin deficiency can start or aggravate the symptoms. So take prenatal vitamins, vitamin B6 tablets and dense food items like sweet potatoes, carrots, nuts, cheese, soybeans, dried apricots etc.
  • Even sucking on ice cubes and a piece of cut lemon helps.
  • If you cannot eat much, try drinking your nutrients like carrot soup with ginger, fresh chilled fruits smoothie etc
  • There are certain acupressure points which can also be helpful.
  • Try aroma therapy .Citrus oils (lime, grapefruit, bergamot, orange etc are safe to use).
  • If getting out of hands, your doctor can help you out with certain pills.

There is acupressure available which can help in the relief of morning sickness. Also there is one more wrist band by the name of RELIEF BAND worn like a watch on the inside of the wrist. It stimulates the nerves of the wrists and is water and shock resistant. So you have hope after all.
